Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know Hands on Health is the right fit for me?

We offer a free consultation by phone, telehealth, or in person. Please schedule an appointment to discuss your needs.

What can I expect on my first visit?

When you schedule an appointment, you'll receive online registration paperwork via email that you may conveniently submit prior to your visit. Once you arrive for your evaluation, please enter through the side door and have a seat in our welcoming lobby space. Your therapist will meet you at the scheduled appointment time. A bathroom is available down the hall and to the left.

What is included in a comprehensive physical therapy evaluation?

For all new patients, we start with a comprehensive PT evaluation. You and your therapist will have a thorough one-on-one conversation about your current condition, past medical history, symptoms, and factors that may be limiting your quality of life. Through observation and assessment, your therapist will identify the root causes of your symptoms to properly diagnose the issue that needs to be treated.

After discussing your goals, they will develop an individualized treatment plan that includes your whole person — mind, body, and spirit. During this initial appointment, your therapist will begin expert hands-on treatments to ensure you find relief from your first visit.

How many follow-up visits will I need?

The number of follow-up visits depends on how many times per week or month your therapist recommends for you to achieve your goals on a realistic timeframe. At HOH, we frequently see patients get better faster, due to the one-on-one care they receive.

What can I expect during a follow-up session?

Your entire follow-up session is spent with your therapist treating your specific problems with a combination of expert manual therapy, joint mobilizations, soft tissue mobilization, neuromuscular re-education, and education tailored to your individual needs. We utilize trigger point dry needling, cupping, gua sha, Graston technique, and taping to facilitate soft tissue and muscle function.

With a focus on patient education, we also share the latest neuroscience about the brain's role in pain — empowering our patients to cope with and heal chronic pain.

What kind of support can I access outside of my appointments?

We recognize how difficult the healing process can be. At every step, our therapists are available through email or phone call. We are committed to being “hands on” — in our communication and our coaching support — to meet your evolving needs on the healing journey.

Where is parking located?

Our parking lot is located directly off of 3001 22nd Street, on the side of the white building. Upon arrival, please look for the Hands on Health signs to direct you to our side entrance. We usually have more than three parking spaces available for your convenience.

Do I need a doctor's referral or prescription for a PT evaluation?

We believe in accessible expert care. Under Louisiana's Physical Therapy Practice Act, direct access means we do not need a doctor's prescription to evaluate and treat a patient. A physical therapist is trained and educated to be a first-line provider for injury and pain, and is often a less costly path than testing, imaging, and pharmaceuticals.

Do you take insurance?

We provide our patients with insurance documentation to file out-of-network for self-reimbursement, as well as a helpful insurance benefits worksheet. Our staff can help guide you in this process.

A specialized provider with Dr. Kelly's credentials is not typically covered in-network through insurance plans. However, visits could be covered through an exceptions process or through FSA and HSA accounts. For patients who self-pay, it's possible to apply for insurance coverage by submitting a claim.

Do you offer home visits?

Yes! We offer home appointments as an option for all patients. Our therapists are happy to come to you.

Do you provide referrals?

We are the functional movement experts. If necessary, we refer patients to physicians for further medical diagnosis or assessment. We work within a network of local holistic providers, accessing a continuum of care to best fit your needs — see our Extended Network.
